2017 MotoGP™: HJC Helmets Grand Prix de France

Free Practice

#35 Cal Crutchlow - (4th – 1’39.607)

“This morning was not bad, but I didn’t take any risks as these kind of days can really wreck your season. If you make a small mistake you can pay a heavy price when really it doesn’t mean so much to final outcome of the weekend, especially when we think Sunday is going to be dry.
“I always seem I have good pace in the mixed conditions and in the wet, but this afternoon I had a really bad feeling with the tyre and my feeling with bike overall was not great. We are 1.6 seconds off at the moment, but I had such a bad feeling with the bike, and a few small problems, that I think it’s easy to say we could have been very competitive if we needed to be. If it was a Sunday race we would have been there for sure.”

#35 Cal Crutchlow - (4th – 1’32.300)

“It was a decent day. It’s been a difficult and strange weekend so far as we haven’t had hardly any dry track time and even in qualifying the track wasn’t completely dry and in great shape. We did a good job as a team, but I made a sloppy lap at the end when I made some mistakes and I was disappointed to end up on the second row.
“I feel quite good ahead of the race. But as you can see, at the moment it’s quite hard to be as competitive as the Yamaha, and the Honda takes a bit more setting up around this track. Hopefully tonight the engineers can work their magic and tomorrow we will be really competitive because, when we do get it right, we’re very, very fast. I’m looking forward to that and hopefully it will be a good day for us tomorrow.”

#35 Crutchlow (5th - 43' 43.312)

"I was struggling today to turn the bike with the harder front tyre, it was really difficult and I was losing a lot of time in the mid-turn. But I felt quite good in the braking zone and I'm happy enough to finish in the top five.
"At least we finished and that was important after not doing so in the last race. My target today was the top six and we finished in the top five, so I'm pleased enough. At Mugello I'll be aiming for the top six again, although there are a lot of guys riding fast at the moment, and I'm hoping the new tyre might suit me a bit better."
